SMWC Senior Spotlight: Madison Raiser

Blog | 01.24.2025
Madison “Madi” Raiser

Name: Madison “Madi” Raiser
Major: Equine Studies, Concentration in Training & Instruction
Hometown: Chicago Heights, Illinois

1. Why did you choose to earn your degree at SMWC?
I chose SMWC because my mom, Marykay Meyer ’10, is an alumna, and she loved being a part of the equestrian team. I have dreamt since I was a little girl to attend college here and be a part of the legacy. The coaches and professors made me feel like I belonged here, as well, from day one.

2. Why did you choose your major?
I chose equine studies because I knew this program would set me up for success post-graduation with the wide variety of classes and experiences. After my first year, I knew it was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life, and this program would get me there with the supportive professors and hands-on training.

3. What is your favorite place on campus?
The barn. I end up spending more time at the barn than anywhere else on campus. I remember coming back to campus with my mom for horse shows, and I immediately knew this was my home away from home.

4. What have you been involved in (student clubs and organizations, sports teams, etc.) during your time at SMWC?
I have been on the SMWC Hunt Seat and Western teams all four years here. Being on both teams and the amount of time that they each require takes up most of my time. However I was also a member of the Collegiate Horsemen’s Association and the barn manager my sophomore year. I was also the social media manager for the equestrian teams my junior year.

5. What is a favorite memory you have from your Woods experience?
I can’t pick a single favorite memory because I have made so many unforgettable memories throughout my time on the team and in the program. I was excited to experience the traditions my mom had shared with me from her time here. I love that the College offers these traditions (i.e., midnight breakfast, Ring Day, senior equine caroling on horseback).

6. How do you plan to stay connected to SMWC after graduating?
I still plan to talk to friends and the equine program faculty because they are a big part of my life and I love to know how they’re doing. I also plan to keep in touch with my classmates and return for campus events. I will be moving for employment to Texas and look forward to connecting with other alums in the area.

It is an absolute pleasure knowing both Madi and our experience with the outstanding equine program at SMWC. Madi is truly remarkable, and her dedication and passion have represented the school in the best possible way. Her enthusiasm, knowledge, and professionalism are a testament to the quality of education and training the program provides. We feel incredibly fortunate to have such a strong equine program in our community, filled with exceptional students like Madi. She exemplifies the excellence and commitment that make this program such a standout, and we are thrilled to see the positive impact it has on both students and the broader equine community.
